An inspiring start to the 2025/2026 academic year: A welcoming and orientation event combining motivation, guidance, and mentorship for new students at the Department of Business Management / School of Business, The University of Jordan

Under the patronage and participation of the Dean of the School of Business at the University of Jordan, Professor Dr. Samer Dahiyat, the Department of Business Management at the School of Business organized the BUSINESS CONNECT 2025 event to welcome new students to the Department of Business Management and introduce them to the history, establishment, mission, vision, strategic goals, and achievements of the School, in addition to the opportunities provided by the University, the School, and the Department to students during their university studies.

The event also included a presentation of all information, guidance, and advice related to the Business Management major and the department's academic programs, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. It provided an overview of the Bachelor of Business Management program and its learning outcomes. Furthermore, the importance and role of the academic advisor within the department were clarified, and a detailed explanation of the major's Guidance Plan and its significance in guiding students toward enrolling in recommended course levels each semester was presented. The event also featured inspiring presentations from Faculty members and current students, as well as testimonials from distinguished graduates of the Bachelor of Business Management program.

The ceremony included a welcoming and guiding speech by the Dean of the School of Business, Professor Dr. Samer Dahiyat, who emphasized the school’s focus on instilling and sustaining a culture that focuses on Excellence at all levels: locally, regionally and globally. He also reiterated the School’s strategic commitment to maintaining the highest standards of academic excellence in learning, teaching and scientific research and making a tangible societal impact, as well as focusing on developing the skills of all Faculty members, administrators and students and expanding their horizons and knowledge. This becomes especially important since the School has obtained the prestigious international accreditation “Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business” (AACSB) for all its academic programs, and its specializations have achieved advanced rankings in the QS World University Rankings By Subject 2025, where it ranked 151-200 in Accounting & Finance, 201-250 in Business & Management Studies and 501-550 in Economics & Econometrics.

Dean Dahiyat also noted that the school is celebrating its Diamond Jubilee this year, marking 60 years since its founding in 1965. He highlighted the school's pivotal role in graduating generations of influential leaders who have enriched Jordan and the region with distinguished talent across various economic sectors, making a positive impact. He emphasized that this aspect is a fundamental component of the school's strategic vision and mission. The Dean also stressed the importance of student participation in academic and extracurricular activities and taking advantage of the guidance and mentorship opportunities available to them throughout their studies.

The event also introduced Faculty members of the Business Management Department, giving students the opportunity to meet the professors who will be accompanying them on their academic journey. An overview of the Faculty members' areas of expertise was also presented, along with valuable advice for new students aimed at enhancing their university experience.
For his part, Professor Dr. Bader Obaidat, who is a senior Faculty member at the Department, stressed the importance of the continuous pursuit of self-development, emphasizing ambitious thinking, following good role models, and practicing self-motivation in order to achieve aspirations and goals and build a successful future.
Dr. Rima Al-Hassan, Assistant Dean for Quality and Local Accreditation and a Faculty member at the department, gave a presentation on the department's academic programs and the curriculum for the Bachelor's program. She covered the main topics of the courses and the intended learning outcomes. Dr. Al-Hassan emphasized that the program focuses on developing students' creative and entrepreneurial skills and preparing them for the job market by bridging theoretical and practical aspects. She also provided an overview of the students' academic path and the skills they will acquire during their studies.

Following this, Dr. Alaa Al-Azzam, the Bachelor's program academic advisor at the Department, spoke about the role of academic advising in supporting students. She explained how to help students choose appropriate courses, understand graduation requirements, and improve their academic performance. She also emphasized the importance of ongoing communication with School members to benefit from their expertise, and outlined mechanisms for supporting academically struggling students and encouraging high-achieving students to engage in research and academic activities.

The event also featured inspiring presentations from program alumni and current students, who shared their experiences and advice with the new students. Graduates Aya Fakhoury, Omar Darbashi, Mays Al-Harini, and Nour Al-Maayeh spoke about the impact of their studies at the University of Jordan on their career paths, emphasizing the importance of participating in volunteer activities and academic competitions, as well as academic exchange programs (Erasmus+), in developing their personalities and preparing them for the job market.

Students Lara Najm and Amir Muneizel also offered practical and motivational advice to their peers, highlighting the importance of volunteer work and participation in extracurricular activities both on and off campus, and making the most of the resources provided by the college and university to support their personal and professional development.

The event also included an interactive orientation session on university facilities, presented by Dr. Lana Matar and Dr. Roxana Al-Hunaity. This session included introductions to the library, the Admissions and Registration Unit, the Deanship of Student Affairs, and other vital university facilities, creating an atmosphere of enthusiasm and positive interaction among the participants. The session concluded with the Dean of the School honoring the student and graduate speakers and thanking them for their contributions and for sharing their experiences with the new students.
