MA Degree in Business Economics / Program Overview

Ø Background to the program and subject area:
The Master program was established in 1978. Bachelors in economics as well as from various academic backgrounds such as: Economics, Financial Economics, Agricultural Economics, Islamic Economics, Economics of Insurance, Political Economics,  Business Administration, Finance, Marketing, Industrial Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, are accepted to be enrolled in the program.
This is a two-track program: thesis Track and non-thesis tracks. Students are required to successfully pass (36) credit hours in order to earn their master degrees in Business Economics. In the thesis track case, credit hours are (18) credit hours as obligatory courses, (6) credit-hours as elective courses, and a successful completion of (9) credit hours thesis, while in the non-thesis track case, credit hours are (21) credit hours as obligatory courses, (15) credit hours as elective courses,  and successful completion of the comprehensive exam.

Business Economics Department is internationally recognized for the quality of teaching and research. Therefore, our vision is to generate and disseminate knowledge in the fields of economics that include industrial, fiscal, resource and environmental, monetary, international, development, human resource and Islamic economics, econometrics and research. Our vision also to provide leaders and policy-makers with the tools they need to better understand the process of economic development, enabling them to help craft policies that expand the opportunities and achievements of people.

The mission of the Department of Economics is ultimately to support the missions of the University of Jordan by providing quality instruction and training to bachelor, master, and Ph.D. students to prepare them for successful careers; engaging in scholarly research activity to maintain academic participation and advance knowledge in the field of economics; and providing service to the university and the society at large. Our mission is to provide high quality undergraduate and graduate education and extraordinary learning experiences that prepare our students for positions in business, industry, and government on a local, national, and global level.

1.    To provide the students with the advanced knowledge related to the microeconomic and macroeconomic theories.
2.    To develop the ability of students to find economic data.
3.    To develop the ability of students to solve the contemporary economic problem.
4.    To qualify the students to know how to deal with applied economic issues.
