Prerequisite: (1602201)

Financial statement analysis may be performed for variety of reasons, such as valuing equity securities, assessing credit risk, conducting due diligence related to an acquisition, or assessing a subsidiary's performance. This includes the two most common categories: equity analysis and credit analysis. In essence, an analyst seek to answer such questions as: How successfully has the company performed, relative to its own past performance and relative to its competitors? How is the company likely to perform in future? Based on expectations about future performance, what is the value of the company or the securities it issues? This course is designed to prepare students to interpret and analyze financial statements for tasks such as credit and security analyses, lending and investment decisions, and other decisions that rely on financial data. Ultimately, students who complete this course develop a more efficient and effective approach to researching, interpreting, and analyzing financial statements.
