The Department of Business Economics at the University of Jordan Hosted Dr. Silvia Albrizio from the International Studies Department at the International Monetary Fund

On Thursday the 20th of October, 2022, the Department of Business Economics at the University of Jordan hosted Dr. Silvia Albrizio from the International Studies Department at the International Monetary Fund – Washington DC and the accompanying team from the Fund's office in Jordan. The team visit began with a meeting in the office of the Dean of Business school, Prof. Bani Yasseen, during which the two parties discussed potential collaborative opportunities.

In the scientific symposium hosted by the Department of Business Economics, which was attended by faculty members at the school, Dr. Albrizo reviewed the results of studies that examined the wages dynamics in the post-Corona phase and the risks of rising prices and wages. In particular, the symposium included a full explanation of the content of the second chapter issued by the world economic outlook-IMF which was published by the international monetary fund early October, 2022.

Dr. Silvia's presentation included an explanation of the main hypothesis that indicates the possibility of wages being dependent on price increases as a result of supply and demand shocks due to the closures that accompanied the Covid-19 pandemic

After the symposium, the business economics faculty members held a meeting with Dr. Silvia and Miss Raya Al-Farah, deputy representative of the Monetary Fund in Jordan, during which they discussed opportunities for research and training cooperation with faculty members and students in the department. Also, the meeting involved discussion on several contemporary economic issues related to the economic consequences of the pandemic and the Russian and Ukrainian war.

At the end of the visit, Dr. Silvia thanked the University of Jordan and the faculty members of the school of Business for hosting the event, hoping that this visit would be a starting point for more collaborative opportunities with the school members at the University of Jordan
